Community volunteers help Lynnhaven River Now keep an eye on Virginia Beach waterways by becoming Water Quality Monitors. In partnership with HRSD, water samples from locations around Virginia Beach with a concentration in the Lynnhaven River Watershed are tested for nutrients and contamination on a monthly basis. Our community scientists collect water samples and gather site data at locations throughout Virginia Beach. Volunteers deliver water samples to HRSD for processing on the first Tuesday or second Monday and digital site data is sent to LRNow. The results are collated at LRNow and shared with volunteers and the public.
Spots are limited in the HRSD testing program and we are currently looking for volunteers in select areas of the Lynnhaven River. You can work as an individual or with a partner. If you are in one of the areas listed below and interested in taking on the monthly commitment, please complete this form to receive information for the 2025 Water Quality Program. - The Western Branch of the Lynnhaven River (Witchduck Point and Little Neck areas)
- Thalia Kayak Launch
- Lake Windsor at Mt. Trashmore
- West Neck and/or London Bridge Creek (Bow Creek, Scarborough Square, International Parkway areas)
- Other areas around Little Neck
