This month, thanks to LRNow volunteers, Green Run is 849 lbs of trash lighter than it was last week! Under the leadership of LRNow staff member, Vince Bowhers, 25 volunteers removed a whopping 46 trash bags worth of garbage from just 1.5 miles of canal and shoreline in Green Run. The most abundant item found was plastic bags totaling nearly 500 pieces. Vince pointed out that plastic bags sink, so there are likely many more at the bottom of the canal. Lynnhaven River NOW coordinated their monthly cleanup to honor and participate in 2022 International Coastal Cleanup®, a campaign promoting the removal of trash from the world’s beaches and waterways through volunteer effort.
