To succeed, we need citizens who are knowledgeable and motivated to be good stewards–the kinds of citizens who incorporate sustainable practice in their homes, places of worship, businesses, and educational institutions. Citizens who come to workshops to learn more, and who are reducing turf, planting natives, installing rain barrels, living shorelines and oyster reefs. The kinds of citizens who volunteer to collect water samples, count baby oyster larvae, assist office administration and volunteer in a monthly waterway cleanup and other events throughout the year. Citizens who advocate for good environmental policies and encourage friends, neighbors, co-workers and family to be good environmental stewards.
Over the past eighteen years, LRNow and our many community partners working cooperatively have accomplished things that no one thought were possible. But our work is not over. Whether you are a teacher, student, VB resident, voter, supporter, business owner, faith community, volunteer, boater, stakeholder, there are so many things you can do to contribute to a cleaner, greener and more resilient Virginia Beach.
